With the pink tower, the proportions are an integral part of the material. People who are good at woodworking/cardboard crafting can make it themselves that way. I have the paperworking skills to fold boxes the right size, but not the parenting skills (or desire) to consistently keep my toddler from trying to fold paper shapes into "boats! hat!".

What I wish someone would've come out with is a cardboard tower kit, where you get a packet of cardboard with the various squares ready to punch out and fold up with little tabs to latch everything together.

The other factor for me on not getting the nesting boxes set was in watching my daughter playing with stacking other nesting boxes. She'd end up with small boxes hidden under medium boxes.

Just another perspective for all the people who are looking around deciding what to do with acquiring materials. =)

Am a bit confused about what you said about the tower falling over. When I've seen videos of kids building the pink tower, when they get the blocks out of order the tower just looks odd, it doesn't fall down.

I saw that you mentioned Adena Montessori on your blog and I wanted to warn others about this company before they make the same mistake that I made along with several others. The low
prices caught my attention. I made the
mistake of only reading the reviews posted on their website. I googled Adena Montessori and reviews after my purchase and the problems I have had with the company. If I had seen the warnings before; I would have never
ordered from them. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY! YOU WILL BE
HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND PRODUCTS. I
placed an order with Adena Montessori and it took almost a month to get the wrong order in the mail on October 15th. I sent many e-mails and tried calling several times. They do not answer their phones nor do they respond promptly to messages or e-mails. The e-mails I did receive from them were very generic. When you finally talk to someone they quickly dismiss your concerns and ask for an e-mail so that they can get off the phone with you. I am currently trying to get a refund for my money. They asked me to list all the materials they sent me and then responded with could you photograph them for us and weigh the boxes. Several items that I did order were either damaged or incomplete. The number cards on the Seguin boards boards did not fit the slots and the hundred board was scratched due to how they packaged the materials. I also ordered 81 unit beads and received
50. I did receive 6 items that were NOT on my list. I am hoping to get this mess straightened out soon, but after reading the posts here. I am expecting the worst. What a waste of time and money!
Lawyers cost money ... probably more than the order. We need to get this company shut down! Please help spread the word so that other mothers and teachers do not get scammed. Thank you for your help!

Honey, I don't think that is the case. I personally know many people who had parents who couldn't sing at all and they sing very pretty. Maybe you could set aside time every week for them to practice singing. Maybe get some voice lesson cd's? This is all personal opinion and none of it based on theory. I love singing more than just about anything. To me, it is one of the most precious gifts. I sing almost constantly. Do I spend all my time focusing on notes? Nope, I'm focused on joy and how much I love singing. Maybe put the focus on joy? To me, that is the point. I want to enhance my child's joy of music. I sing pretty good and therefore I think I enjoy it more than someone who can't carry a tune. I want my child to have the same experience. That's the only reason it matters to me.

I've heard about that hindrance before. I defintitely think I'll be focusing more on relative pitch. Otherwise it seems to teach that perfection is the key, which I do not want her to thank. How does a mother who is tone deaf (even after 13 years in band, orchestra, marching band...I was applauded anytime I happened to be in tune & yet I still don't hear the difference.) help with the musical journey of her children? I know I sing horribly & the only time I'll sing joyfully is alone, with the children or if the music is up REALLY loud & I'm soft (hate to sing when I'm at church). I play a lot of KLove, classical, oldies for the kids, but the more I learn about Montessori & Waldorf it seems as if I as an adult should just have these skills or I'm going to destroy my children's singing ability. I have been told by my father a few years ago (amazing singing voice/ability) that my middle can harmonize,etc... HELP! I don't know how to support them. I do tell them when they ask why I don't sing around others that it's because I want to listen to the voice of others but I noticed they're starting to do this instead of singing. What does a tone deaf mama do to teach/support music & singing?

Oh, one more thing - I like your approach of focusing on relative pitch over perfect pitch. I have good relative pitch, but not perfect pitch. My sister has perfect pitch, and in some ways it's a hindrance not a help - for example, it's hard for her to sing along with a group of people singing a song in a key other than the one it was written in because she has to mentally transpose the song in her head. Perfect pitch has its benefits, certainly, but I think it's a mixed blessing.
